Murder with a laugh track! Everyone wants to make money off of insurance. In In$ured to the Hilt this includes a greedy claimant and her voluptuous daughter, an ambitious administrative assistant, a desperate insurance agent, and a man obsessed with maintaining his reputation. In the end, they are all "insured to the hilt," some more literally than others.

In$ured to the Hilt by Charlotte Stuart has claims adjuster John Smith investigating two murders that may or may not be connected.

Can John Smith keep his insurance company from an unnecessary payout?

John Smith

Mr. Smith was a private investigator but is now a claims adjuster. He made the switch when he discovered he was a lousy PI. John seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. However, he isn’t all that better as a claims adjuster than a private investigator. He doesn’t seem like he actually likes this job, either. John tries, but he also likes his spirits. I wouldn’t enjoy meeting him on the side of the road.

The Mystery

John, in one day, found two dead bodies and had his houseboat broken into. To me, that is the epitome of a bad day. Perhaps he should have gone home after the first dead body and stayed there to deal with his houseboat. Another thing I would have done was stop investigating, but John isn’t me, and he decided to continue. I have to say that I had it pegged for a bit on who did it or at least the general idea of who did it.

Three Stars

My rating for In$ured to the Hilt by Charlotte Stuart is three stars. Ms. Stuart has a great idea, but sadly, the book didn’t meet my expectations. Mr. John Smith isn’t the stereotypical mystery detective guy one would find in these types of books. He didn’t resonate with me.
